Memorygame For Forgetfulness / Memorygame For Remembrance

Andrew Sheerin

Inspired by Mahmoud Darwish’s seminal work, “Memory For Forgetfulness”, Memorygame For Forgetfulness / Remembrance is a paired set of games that invite players to reflect upon the relationship between media, observation and remembrance while engaging in the act of repeatedly matching pairs of aerial images showing destruction in Gaza over the past ten years.

Andrew discovered how dangerous play is after designing a satirical boardgame, ruthlessly critical of the war on terror. ‘War on Terror, the boardgame’ elicited death threats, was universally banned, seized by police and condemned by government ministers. Andrew’s games have been accepted into the permanent collections of museums, exhibited at major art galleries and studied at universities globally.
