Games about Bad Actors

Artists Nicholas O’Brien and Marloes de Valk (creators of The Last Survey and Villains and Heroes) join the Now Play This team to play the two games and discuss games that explicitly explore bad actors in terms of the climate crisis. Both games can be played throughout the festival, see the Play Any Time section for more.

Marloes de Valk (NL) is a software artist and writer in the post-despair stage of coping with the threat of global warming and being spied on by the devices surrounding her. Surprised by the obsessive dedication with which we, even post-Snowden, share intimate details about ourselves to an often not too clearly defined group of others, astounded by the deafening noise we generate while socializing with the technology around us, she is looking to better understand why.

Nicholas O’Brien is a net-based artist, curator, and writer researching Games, Digital Art, and Network Culture. He currently lives in Brooklyn and is Assistant Professor in 3D Design and Game Development at Stevens Institute of Technology.
