2018 Festival

At the heart of Now Play This is an exhibition of interactive installations, games, drawings and experiments which all use play and game design to explore their themes in different ways. In 2018, we looked at place and process: games which articulate something about what it means to be on a particular road or hillside or in a particular city, and games which explore how games work and give us a new perspective on what they can be. We also ran drop-in workshops across the three days, including a chance for visitors to draw and add to a game that’s being built up throughout the festival.

Unlimited tickets, which allow entry throughout the festival as well as access to a range of other games and activities, were also available.

Our new commissions from game designers, composers, visual artists and architects included:

Dan Hett‘s The Loss Levels
David Helbich‘s Listening Automat
Froach Club‘s TITONIC FISHERMAN
Heather Robertson‘s I-35
Louis Roots‘ Custom Controllers
Playdate Office‘s Are We There Yet?
Sabrina Shirazi‘s soundtrack
Yara El-Sherbini‘s Roadmap for Peace
You+Pea‘s Peep-Pop City
